We went to a place to see Hippos wild. We went to the office and got lots of drinks. Then I drove there on the dirt road!!! It was very fun! Then we made our beds. and do you know where our bed was? It was on top of a roof! It was a mud hut (we slept on top to keep cooler like the locals do)! It was very fun. We cooked dinner, ate diner and went to sleep. We woke up at 5:50. We went on a hike to the canoes. And do you know what we are going to see? We are going to see HIPPOS!!! So we hopped in a canoe and went off. We went past a rock and 8 hippos were there. I took lots of pictures. We went back and hopped in the car and drove on our road trip.

( Last Sunday afternoon/Monday morning: We were in the upper northwest part of Ghana near a main town called Wa. We stayed in a local village and took our canoes down the Black Volta River which borders Ghana and Burkina Faso. We were actually canoeing on the Burkina Faso side to stay close to land! There are crocs in this river too although they said rare to see. The local villages began this project about 10+ years ago to protect the hippos in the region. We feel pretty lucky to be amongst the approximate 3000 tourists a year that visit here--so grateful for this opportunity! The locals hope to continue to promote their eco-tourism and attract more people to their region. It was really amazing-staying in the village and sleeping up top--the kids loved it! We also got to walk around and see what was happening in the village around us with our guide (a local). It was very interesting. We were definitely roughing it--slept in our clothes that night on a mattress with no sheets on top of a mud house! Cool stories!!!!....and Fun for all, Kim )
This is Zachary on top of the above "lodge" which is where we slept!!!!
